Black Sabbath Wins Grammy Award For "Best Metal Performance"

Back in December the Grammy nominees for "best metal performance" were announced, and if you've forgotten the lineup was as follows:

"T.N.T." - Anthrax
"God Is Dead?" - Black Sabbath
"The Enemy Inside" - Dream Theater
"In Due Time" - Killswitch Engage
"Room 24" - Volbeat Featuring King Diamond

While many put their money down on Volbeat, it turns out Black Sabbath actually took home the win for "God Is Dead?"

The track was also nominated for "best rock song" and the new album "13" was up for "best rock album," although Sabbath didn't actually snag a win in either of those categories. Here were the nominations for best rock song and best rock album:

BEST SONG

"Ain't Messin' 'Round" -- Gary Clark Jr.
"Cut Me Some Slack" -- Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Krist Novoselic, Pat Smear (Winner)
"Doom and Gloom" -- The Rolling Stones
"God Is Dead?" -- Black Sabbath
"Panic Station" -- Muse

BEST ALBUM

Black Sabbath -- "13"
David Bowie -- "The Next Day"
Kings of Leon -- "Mechanical Bull"
Led Zeppelin -- "Celebration Day" (Winner)
Queens of the Stone Age -- "... Like Clockwork"
Neil Young with Crazy Horse -- "Psychedelic Pill"

Metallica also performed during the awards ceremony, playing the track "One" alongside pianist Lang Lang. Footage of the event can be seen below.

Metallica Preparing To Enter The Recording Studio

After performing live in Antarctica and releasing a 3D movie, Metallica is finally gearing up to enter the studio and record a new album.

In an interview with Billboard.com, Kirk Hammett states Metallica will be entering the studio in a few weeks, and he also comments:

"When we start, that's going to be our main priority, and we're pretty excited about it because we've been saying we need to start working on this album, but we've been procrastinating greatly with it. We've pretty much come up with every sort of excuse we can not to start work on the album, but we've run out of excuses, so we pretty much have to start work on it now."

He also goes on to say, "You hear about these bands that are sitting in the studio and they don't have any songs, what are they gonna do? That's not Metallica. Metallica's problem is the total opposite. We have too many ideas. James (Hetfield) has, like, 800 ideas. I have 400. Those number alone are just crazy. That's formidable."

This new, as-yet-untitled album, will follow the disastrous flop "Lulu" and the band's 2008 album "Death Magnetic".
